Ski & Snowboard Rental FAQ

I was a previous My Epic Gear Member. How is it different now?

Though My Epic Gear no longer has a Membership component, guests can still expect the latest gear in our Demo fleet, with the option to pick your exact model at select resorts.

Key changes for the 26/27 Winter season include:

  • Demo packages at select resorts will offer the ability to choose the exact brand and model of Demo skis through the Pick Your Own Demo package.
    • Pick Your Own is only available at select locations and may vary based on inventory and availability. The resorts where you can Pick Your Own (PYO) Demo Package include: Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Whistler Blackcomb, Park City, Crested Butte, Heavenly, Northstar, Stowe, Okemo, and Mount Snow.
    • You will not have the option to select a “Favorite Gear” for the season, but you will still have access to a variety of the latest makes and models through the Pick Your Own Demo packages. See more in our Gear Room
  • Upgraded boots with all Demo packages. All ski boots will feature BOA technology, and all snowboard boots will offer step-on bindings
  • My Epic Gear reservations are no longer required to be made in the My Epic app, though can still be accessed from the app. Reservations can be made across MyEpicGear.com and Resort sites.
  • Member Service locations will no longer be available, but all necessary support can be found in our rentals shops.
  • Slopeside pick-up and drop-off will not be available fulfillment options. However, overnight slopeside storage is available at select locations on a first-come, first-served basis.

Where do I make a reservation?
You can make a reservation online through the My Epic Gear website or directly through participating resort rental pages. Booking online is the easiest way to browse available gear options, select your preferred package (including demo or Pick Your Own Demo where available), and secure your reservation in advance.

Booking online in advance helps ensure availability, faster pickup, and access to any applicable discounts.

How far in advance do I need to book my reservation?
You can book your reservation at any time before your arrival, but we recommend reserving at least a few days in advance to ensure the best selection and availability. If you make a reservation less than 2 calendar days in advance of your arrival, gear will only be available for pick up at a store location and delivery will not be available. Gear selection is subject to gear availability at time of booking. We recommend booking gear for a minimum of 48 hours in advance to ensure the best overall experience and selection.

What is your refund policy?

For cancellations inside of 24 hours please call 970-754-0033 (or toll free at 1-800-200-9990) so we can assist you.  We cannot cancel reservations within 24 hours by email or in person.

Rescheduled reservations will be subject to inventory available on their new date, which may be different from your original reservation.

How do I determine my skier type?
Your skier type reflects your ability level and is typically classified as Type I (Beginner), Type II (Intermediate), or Type III (Advanced). It helps rental shops and technicians set your equipment correctly for safety and performance. Choose the skier type that best matches your typical speed, terrain, and confidence level—not your aspirations.

Why does skier type matter?
Your skier type is used to set your binding release settings (DIN), match you to the right equipment performance level, and help maintain performance.

How do I select gear for my reservations?
Guests can choose from Sport, Performance, and Demo packages at the majority of My Epic Gear locations. For standard packages, our experts will select the best gear for you based on your Renter Information inputs.

For Resorts with Pick Your Own Demo packages, you can browse our Gear Room in advance to explore available options. When you’re ready to make your reservation, select a Demo package and select “Pick Your Own.”

The resorts where you can Pick Your Own Demo Package include: Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Whistler Blackcomb, Park City, Crested Butte, Heavenly, Northstar, Stowe, Okemo, and Mount Snow.

Model availability may vary by Resort.

Can I purchase my rental equipment?
No, but retail locations may sell new equipment or used models.

Can I exchange my skis?
Yes—ski and snowboard exchanges are available during your rental period to ensure you have the right equipment for your experience. You can return to any rental location, and our team will help fit you with a different size, style, or model based on availability.

Please note that upgrades may result in an additional charge, and exchanges are subject to equipment availability at the location.

Can I switch from skis to a snowboard?
Yes—you can switch from skis to a snowboard (or vice versa) during your rental period. Category switches are based on availability at the location at the time of the request. Changes may require additional time for refitting and adjustments, and upgrades or different equipment categories may result in an additional charge.

Can I pick up skis the day before?
Yes, after 3 PM with no extra charge.

Can I bring my own boots?
Yes. Our rental locations allow you to bring and use your own ski or snowboard boots with rental equipment. Our team will help ensure your bindings are properly adjusted for your boots to provide the best fit and safety. You can deselect boots during booking. Please note: Boots must be compatible with rental bindings. Our technicians will verify compatibility and adjust settings before use

When do I need a boot inspection?
A boot inspection is required for any guest bringing their own ski boots for a rental. A boot inspection includes a review of the make, model, size, and sole length. Boots are checked for compatibility with bindings as well as safety with regard to excessive wear and proper functionality.

Do you have large boot sizes?
Yes, up to size 15 (ski) and 15 (snowboard), but availability is limited.

Do you offer delivery?
Yes, at select resorts, including hotels, condos, and vacation homes.  Reservations for delivery must be made at least 48 hours in advance of fulfilment.

Do you rent helmets?
Yes. Helmets can be added at the time a reservation is booked as part of a package or available for rental in-store.

Can I take a day off mid-rental?
Yes—coordinate with staff at pickup to avoid extra charges.

Do you rent ski clothing?

Ski clothing rentals are not available, but retail stores at our resorts offer a full selection of jackets, pants, gloves, goggles, and base layers to get you fully equipped for your time on the mountain.

Our team can help you find the right gear for the conditions, fit, and activity level so you’re comfortable and ready to enjoy your experience.

Can I rent boots only?
Yes—our locations offer boot-only rentals if you plan to use your own skis or snowboard.

Because your personal skis or snowboard are being paired with our boots, you must bring your equipment with you at the time of your rental. Our technicians will complete required ASTM-standard binding compatibility and release testing to ensure the setup meets manufacturer functionality and safety requirements. This process takes additional time and may add up to 30 minutes to your fitting, depending on store volume.

We recommend planning ahead and allowing extra time, especially during peak hours, to ensure proper fit and safety testing.

Do you offer overnight storage?
Yes—Select locations offer complimentary overnight ski and snowboard storage for rental equipment, allowing you to leave your skis and boards at the mountain.

Storage is available on a first-come, first-served basis and may be limited based on capacity, so we recommend confirming availability with your rental location when you pick up your equipment.

Do I need a waiver for an unaccompanied minor?
We require a parent or legal guardian to sign a release of liability on behalf of an unaccompanied person younger than 18 years old. Download, complete and print this waiver: and send it with your child. They will not be able to participate if the release is not signed. No exceptions.

What is the age limit for kids rentals?
Kids rental equipment is designed for children ages 12 and under, with sizing and options tailored to younger guests. Our team will ensure each child is fitted with the appropriate equipment based on: Height and weight, Ability level, and Boot and ski/board size. Kids 12 and under needing adult sizes will still honor kids pricing.

For very young children or those outside standard sizing ranges, availability may vary, so we recommend confirming with your rental location in advance.
Can I choose my own skis?
Yes—at participating resorts, you can choose your own skis when booking a demo-level rental through our Pick Your Own Demo experience. This allows you to select a specific ski or snowboard model in advance based on your preferences, ability level, and conditions.

For sport and performance level rental packages, skis are typically selected for you based on your profile (height, weight, ability level), but you can always work with our team in-store to request adjustments or explore available options.

Note: Pick Your Own is only available at select locations and may vary based on inventory and availability. The resorts where you can Pick Your Own Demo include: Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Whistler Blackcomb, Park City, Crested Butte, Heavenly, Northstar, Stowe, Okemo, and Mount Snow.

If I pick a specific model, will I receive the same model I selected?
At participating resorts offering Pick Your Own Demo rentals, selecting a specific ski or snowboard model reserves that unit for your reservation, but it is not guaranteed in all circumstances.

In rare scenarios, your selection may be unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances (E.g. Equipment damage, loss, maintenance need, etc).

If a substitution is needed, our team will work to provide a comparable or upgraded option to ensure you still receive the highest quality experience and equipment.

Does picking a specific unit cost more (or less)?
While the option to pick your own model doesn't cost anything to select in itself, selecting a specific ski or snowboard model through Pick Your Own is part of the demo-level rental category, which is priced higher than standard rental packages due to the premium equipment and added selection experience.

Are Pick Your Own Demo packages available for kids?
No, Pick Your Own Demo is only available for Adult skis, snowboards, and boots.

Can I change my Pick Your Own Demo selection after I book?
Yes—you can update your Pick Your Own Demo selection after booking, when changes are made more than 2 days in advance of your reservation. To modify your reservation, you can contact us at (970) 754-0033 or toll free at 1 (800) 766-0449.

Change requests inside of 48 hours will need to be made in store at the time of pick up and is subject to availability.
