Child Development Programs

Programs Available

Ski and Ride School Programs

  • All Comets and Junior Development team programs run during weekends starting January through the end of March. We will miss MLK and President’s weekend.
  • We aim to have each team ski/snowboard with the same coach throughout the season allowing them to build a strong relationship and focus on your child’s individual needs.
  • For details of start times, drop off/pick up locations, what to bring etc., please see the “General Information” tab.

Programs are split up into:

  • For 4 to 6 year-olds on Sundays.
  • New this season, we are introducing an all-day “Comets” program for kids that are already stopping, turning, and riding chairlifts. This program will include lunch.
  • Beginners (have never skied or are still working on stopping and turning) should join the half-day program on Sunday afternoons.

Junior Development Teams

  • For 7 to 15 year-olds on Saturdays and/or Sundays.
  • Children should be able to stop, turn, and use chairlifts prior to joining these programs.
  • We will focus on the fundamentals of skiing/snowboarding, while exploring as much of the mountain as we can safely and comfortably do so, taking into consideration snow conditions and the ability of the group.
  • Snowboard groups will run on Saturdays (we need a minimum of 5 kids at the same level to run a snowboard group).
  • All programs include lunch.
  • Participants will be able to go Saturdays and/or Sundays. Snowboarding will only be available on Saturdays.
  • New this year, it will be possible to snowboard on Saturdays and ski on Sundays as part of the full weekend program.

General Information

Location and times

  • New this year, we are moving the start time of the full-day programs to 8:30 am, finishing at 2:30 pm. The goal is to make it easier for you as parents/guardians to deal with traffic during busy weekends. You will also have a little more time to ski/snowboard with your children following the program, should you desire.
  • Kids should be dropped off by 8:15 am. We encourage you to share your contact info with your coach after groups have been determined the first weekend so you can tell them if you are going to be late and organize a meeting place on the mountain.
  • All programs meet behind the California Kids Ski and Ride School. You should use the stairs on the right-hand side of the lodge to access the back of California Kids Ski and Ride School. Please use 15 minute parking to drop off your kids and then park your car properly.
  • Pickup time will be 2:30 pm at the same place the kids were dropped off.

Cancellation and Make-up days

  • In the event of extreme weather conditions, where the resort is not likely to open, we may cancel the programs for the day. This does not happen very often and we often ski/snowboard in snow, wind, rain etc.
  • Check the “Notice Board” on this page for updates.
  • Ensure we have the correct contact information for you.
  • Ensure we have your correct email; we will send out an email prior to each weekend’s programs.
  • In the event we do cancel a day, we will make it up in the spring.

How to dress

Please make sure your children are prepared for the elements; if in doubt, assume it will be colder and wetter.
Children can always take off layers if they are too hot.
If possible, please label any clothing with your child’s name.

  • Waterproof pants
  • Waterproof gloves/mittens
  • 1 pair only of ski socks (calf length)
  • Goggles or sunglasses
