Fortune Friday

Posted November 18, 2022

Hello everyone,

What a week it has been! We opened Heavenly’s California side six days earlier than planned, and a month earlier than last year. Today, the Gondola opened for sightseeing just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday week so that visitors can experience the beauty and extraordinary views of Lake Tahoe. It has been an amazing string of days since opening day after Mother Nature gave us the gift of a few feet of snow and cold temperatures for snowmaking. The entire team is excited for the winter ahead and getting to full operation.

As the first ‘Fortune Friday’ of the 2022/23 ski and ride season, I want to thank all of you who joined us. The energy on-mountain has been infectious – to see everyone out there having fun is incredibly special. More than anything, I want to recognize the Heavenly team... they really are the best of the best and are so committed to what they do. I took a step back this morning to really reflect on where we are and where we’re going, especially as I enter my 44th career winter season. I can’t quite put my gratitude into words – I am so thankful to everyone in our Heavenly family for working so hard and with focus, passion, and positivity to allow us to safely open six days earlier than planned. The bonds of this team are strong, and to see everyone – new and returning – come together and welcome one another, and all of our guests, is super inspiring.

We are very close to being able to open Canyon Express, with Ridge Run and surrounding off-piste terrain planned any day now. Recent winds have been a hindrance to our snowmaking but as soon as that wind cooperates, we’ll be able to make it happen. In the meantime, we’re making the most of every minute of production that we can, and we’ll keep you posted. Sky Express should open shortly after. Next, we will set our sights toward Tamarack Express, Upper Cal Trail and Big Easy with skiing access from the Gondola. Following that, our efforts will go toward Dipper Express and the upper terrain on the Nevada side. Finally, we will work on getting the lower Nevada lifts and terrain open. Our snowmaking team is crushing it. With cold temps and our comprehensive snowmaking system, we are making good progress. It’s important to know that we need to have a solid machine-made snow base in order to make it through the entire ski season.

Lastly, I wanted to update you on another big milestone as we near closer to the completion of the North Bowl upgrade. Earlier this week, our incredible crews spliced and installed the haul rope, and now, final steps begin. We are currently on track to open before the winter holiday period which is when we normally open the Boulder/North Bowl pod. This is an amazing new lift and we can’t wait for you to grab a chair and lap that terrain faster than ever before!

Thanks again for such a memorable opening week at the resort, I’ll see you again soon.

Tom
