Content Element

We have Lake Tahoe ski and ride lessons available for all types of skier and rider from first timers to intermediates, advanced and experts wanting to improve what they are already doing or learn something completely new! If you're new to the sport, Heavenly ski rentals will hook you up with the right gear for your first time on the slopes.

At Heavenly Ski and Ride School we train our instructors to determine your ability level, goals and help you get the most out of your lesson. We can help you explore some options that you may never have thought of before or refresh existing skills you have. Our goal is to help you have the maximum amount of fun you have during your experience at Heavenly with the Heavenly Ski and Ride School.

The Heavenly Ski and Ride School is currently closed for the summer, but we can't wait to have you here next winter for your best ski season yet.

Beginner Tab

If you are a beginner skier or rider, a half day adult group ski lesson is for you. The Heavenly Ski and Ride School have either morning or afternoon lessons. A Lake Tahoe ski lesson in the morning will leave you free in the afternoon to go out and show off your newly learned skills with friends or family. An afternoon ski lesson is ideal if you want to sleep in (you are on vacation, after all) or would like to have a more relaxing start to your day. Either way a half day lesson is a great way to start your life long vacations in the mountains.

Our group lessons provide a fun, affordable and hands-on environment where you can learn to ski/ride with others at your same level. Expert instructors will help take your skills to the next level, whether that’s perfecting a turn or taking on your first black diamond, while you enjoy a lively group atmosphere.

Beginners - First timers:
Your first time on snow should be spent in a safe, relaxing and encouraging environment. At Heavenly Ski and Ride School our goal is to give you the tools to start sliding on snow as soon as possible. We want you to begin using a beginner lift and negotiating the beginner areas at Heavenly by the time you have finished your first lesson.

Beginners - Second timers:
If you have been on snow once before then this is the lesson for you! Our aim will be to take you up on a chairlift and start to explore green runs while at the same time building on the speed control you learned on your first day. We will introduce turning and build these skills if you already started to turn during your first lesson. We will develop the skills needed for you to move up onto the upper mountain as soon as possible.

Lessons start promptly at 10:00 am or 1:15 pm

If you’re an intermediate to advanced skier or rider who can ride a chair lift and is looking for an even mix of instruction and mountain exploration, then a Intermediate/Advanced lesson is what you want.

You and a small group of other skiers or riders will be guided by one of our experts to some hidden treasures on the mountain while getting hands-on instruction. At the start of your lesson, we'll evaluate your level and place you into an appropriate group for your abilities.

Intermediate or advanced lessons are available at all Heavenly Ski and Ride locations except for Boulder.

Intermediate (Green/Blue):
You know the basics of going left and right and stopping. It's time to start exploring Heavenly's massive amount of intermediate terrain. You will be able to travel throughout Nevada and California while at the same time starting to explore trees, parks or maybe the new EpicMix race course.

Advanced/Expert (Blue/Black):
You know your way around the regular trail map, now is the time to really go and explore Heavenly's 4800 acres. Explore steeps, trees, the parks or the race course, maybe go and carve up a blue run or blast some bumps, it's up to you! Our coaches will take you to places you never thought you could go and teach you things you never thought you could do!

Lessons start promptly at 10:00 am or 1:15 pm.

Should I make a reservation for my Adult Lesson?

Yes, this will ensure that you have a lesson for the day and you receive a discount for booking in advance. Check back when we open in November for lesson availability.

What time should I show up?

You should plan on arriving at the Ski & Ride School sales office 1 to 1.5 hours prior to your lesson start time (2 hours during Holiday/Peak times) to fill out release forms, get your tickets and be fitted for equipment. Remember, it can take up to 30 minutes to go up the Gondola to reach the meeting area at the top.

Can my child take an Adult Lesson?

Adult Lessons are for guests 14 years and older. Adult Lessons are not as supervised as our Child Lessons; adult students are free to leave the class at any time they choose. All our instructors are trained to recognize if there is a minor in the class. The instructor will ask the students to come down the mountain with them at the end of the class, but do not require the student to do so. We recommend that you choose a meeting place for you and your child at the end of the day.

Is lunch included with my lesson?

Lunch is only included in the Ultimate 4 group lessons.

Will my instructor eat lunch with me?

Your instructor is required to take a half hour lunch break that they may choose to eat with you. Remember to agree on a place and time to meet back up with your instructor if you do not eat lunch together.

What clothing should I bring?

Weather can change quickly on the mountain, so layers are best. It is a good idea to have waterproof pants, coat and gloves, along with Sunglasses or Goggles and a pair of tall socks (Ski or Snowboard socks recommended). Also, remember to apply sunscreen. Remember - the weather at the top of the mountain will be colder than the weather at the bottom.
