Frequently Asked Questions

Adult Lessons

Should I make a reservation for my Adult Lesson?

Yes, this will ensure that you have a lesson for the day and you receive a discount for booking in advance. Also, we may fill up during Holiday/Peak times. A reservation for the following day must be made by 12pm.

What time should I show up?

You should plan on arriving at the Ski & Ride School sales office 1 to 1.5 hours prior to your lesson start time (2 hours during Holiday/Peak times) to fill out release forms, get your tickets, and be fitted for equipment. Remember, it can take up to 30 minutes to go up the Gondola to reach the meeting area at the top.

WHAT IF I MISS MY LESSON?

If you miss your lesson, or don’t get through the rental process in time, you can always go to the 1:15pm lesson.  If you miss your 1:15pm lesson we can change your reservation to the next day.

WHERE DO I PICK UP MY RESERVATIONS?

Your reservation will be waiting for you at our Adult check-in desk.  Look for the banner and flags for Ski School check-in.

Can my child take an Adult Lesson?

Adult Lessons are for guests 14 years and older. Adult Lessons are not as supervised as our Child Lessons; adult students are free to leave the class at any time they choose. All our instructors are trained to recognize if there is a minor in the class. The instructor will ask the students to come down the mountain with them at the end of the class, but do not require the student to do so. We recommend that you choose a meeting place for you and your child at the end of the day.

Is lunch included with my lesson?

Lunch is only included in the Ultimate 4 group lessons.

Will my instructor eat lunch with me?

Your instructor is required to take a half hour lunch break; they may choose to eat with you. Remember to agree on a place and time to meet back up with your instructor if you do not eat lunch together.

What clothing should I bring?

Weather can change quickly on the mountain, so layers are best. It is a good idea to have waterproof pants, coat and gloves, along with Sunglasses or Goggles, and a pair of tall socks (Ski or Snowboard socks recommended). Also, remember to apply sunscreen, and keep in mind that the weather at the top of the mountain will be colder than the weather at the bottom.

IS A HELMET INCLUDED AS PART OF MY RENTALS?

Helmets are not included as part of the Adult group lesson.  You may be able to rent one from the rental shop while supplies last.

WILL I NEED MY CREDIT CARD AFTER I MAKE MY RESERVATIONS?

You will need your Credit Card as a deposit for the rental shop if you are renting equipment.  The Ski School cannot provide your Credit Card number for you.

IF I’M A BEGINNER DO I NEED A LIFT TICKET?

Yes, everyone on the mountain skiing/snowboarding must purchase and have a lift ticket on them.

Private Lessons

Should I make a reservation for a Private Lesson?

Yes, in order to have the best chance of guaranteeing the right instructor/start time for your needs, it is a good idea to book early. Private Lesson requests can be made online or over the phone.

How many people can join in my Private Lesson?

Our 6-hour Private Lesson price includes up to 6 people; our 3-hour Private Lesson price includes up to 2 people. Each additional student you add to the lesson will be charged an additional fee.

We recommend that you keep a maximum 6:1 ratio between students and instructor. The fewer people in the lesson, the more one-on-one instruction you will get. Each additional student you add to the lesson will be charged an additional fee.

Can I split a Private Lesson between people?

Yes, you may split up a Private Lesson between people in your group for that day. However, you may not split up Private Lesson hours over multiple days. Example: if you have 2 people in your group for a 6-hour lesson, you can have the instructor teach one student for a few hours, then teach the other student for the rest of the time. Remember - if you have more than the allotted number of people in the Private Lesson, an additional person fee will be applied even though the lesson is split up.

What ability levels can you teach in a Private Lesson?

We are able to teach all ability levels in Private Lessons. However, if you have multiple people who would like to stay together in one class, we will always stay on terrain that is comfortable for the person with the lowest ability level (for safety reasons). If this is the case, you may want to book another instructor for the different levels, or split up the day.

Can I have skiers and snowboarders in my Private Lesson?

Private Lessons must be for all Skiers or all Snowboarders. It is very difficult for an instructor on skis to teach a snowboarder, and vice versa.

What ages do you teach Private Lessons?

We can teach all ages in a Private Lesson. We do recommend that children are at least 3 years old. For children under 4, you may need to bring your own equipment as we have limited size ranges for boots and equipment.

WHERE DO I CHECK IN FOR MY PRIVATE LESSON?

We recommend that you check in the day before and sign your release from.  Remember all guests 18+ must be present to sign their own form.  You will need to purchase your lift tickets the morning of, or better yet, pre-purchase them online for the best value.  We also recommend that you rent your equipment the night before.

Where will I meet my instructor?

Once you have signed your release form, all lessons will meet on the snow at the Private Lesson sign, in the adult teaching area.  Private Lessons for children will meet in the same place.

California Teaching Area is to the left of Gunbarrel chair

Gondola Teaching Area is at the top of the Gondola, to the left once you are at the bottom of the stairs

Boulder Teaching Area is to the left of Boulder Lodge
