Lake Tahoe Activities & Adventures

When you visit Heavenly Ski Resort, you’ll have a wide variety of on and off-mountain activities to keep you busy. Just a few of the exciting things to do in Lake Tahoe include: natural hot springs, snowmobiling, hot air ballooning and plenty of appetizing South Lake Tahoe restaurants.

Don’t forget about the amazing night life, too! Adults can revel in world-class entertainment at casinos, jazz clubs and local haunts. And kids and teens will love our juiced-up arcades and family-friendly shows.

An abundance of Lake Tahoe activities are just waiting to be discovered:

Lake Tahoe Snowmobiling

Looking to simultaneously take in the beauty of Lake Tahoe and have an adventure? Explore the outdoors with a South Lake Tahoe snowmobiling tour.

You’ll have the power of a 100+horsepower engine taking you up on top of the rim to experience views that are inaccessible on a hike. Tour Tahoe’s gorgeous backcountry and rip through trails to an elevation over 9,000 feet.

Snowmobile vendors offer packages for novices and seasoned riders alike- take a lesson with a guided tour or rent a snowmobile and take it cruise to spots that get your heart racing.

Scenic Helicopter Tours

As stunning as the views from the shore can be, they only tell part of the story of the lake. View scenic Tahoe how it was meant to be seen- birds eye view from helicopter up over the lake and between the mountains.

Experience the breathtaking natural beauty from the sky. The year round tours depart daily from the Lake Tahoe Airport (TVL) is South Lake Tahoe, CA.

Lake Tahoe Hot Air Balloon Ride

No crowds, distractions or hassles. Climb into the basket under the tear drop shaped balloon and it’s just you and your friends floating quietly around the lake and the Sierra Mountains.

Hot Air Balloon rides offer a unique experience to look down from 10,000 feet above sea level. From the air you can see Emerald Bay, Fallen Leaf Lake, Cascade Lake, views of the peaks of Yosemite and Carson Valley.

Only in Lake Tahoe can your balloon take off and land from a U.S. Coast Guard certified vessel.

Learn about Lake Tahoe

Tahoe locals are passionate about showing why we love our hometown. The area inspires us and we want to share that with anyone who makes it to the lake. There are several facilities around town that will help you learn about the area.

Volunteers have been running educational programs from the Lake Tahoe Historical Society since 1968. You can visit them at the Lake Tahoe History Museum.

The US Forest Service operates the Taylor Creek Visitor Center which offers hiking trail access as well as backcountry permits, maps, and visits to the Sky Amphitheater.

The Tahoe South Visitors Center is a one stop resource to learn about everything the area has to offer.

On the Lake Activities

When you think of Tahoe you might picture laying by the beach, soaking your feet in the warm water or having a beer on the back of your friend’s boat and that’s all for good reason. The on-water activities make South Lake Tahoe the ideal summertime vacation.

Tow your boat to the lake or rent one for the day. Tour around in motorboats, sailboats, kayaks, canoes, row boats.

Make it a fun day on a jet ski or parasail into the breathtaking views over Lake Tahoe. Hike along rocks or lay out on the soft sand.

Stores around town will rent you a wet suit, stand up paddleboards, boats, and anything you need so that you can splash around the Lake however you desire.

Lake Tahoe Hot Springs

Relax and feel the tranquil beauty of the Sierra mountains with a therapeutic trip to local hot springs. Unwind from your day of hiking, kayaking, and biking and soak in the 90-110 degree water.

The springs are warmed by geothermal heat in rocks beneath the earth’s surface and have a unique mineral composition that promotes tranquility.

Springs have been a resort spa destination in Tahoe for 150 years.

Check out California springs at the Sierra Hot Springs in Sierraville or the Tavertine in Bridgeport or head to Nevada for David Walley's Hot Springs Resort in Genoa.
